Washington, D.C. Friday June 27, 2025—Latino Victory Project President & CEO Katharine Pichardo issued the following statement condemning today’s Supreme Court ruling that allows President Trump’s executive order restricting birthright citizenship to go into effect in parts of the country, an attack on the Constitution and the values this nation was founded on.
“Let’s be honest, this isn’t only about the legal process and birthright citizenship. It’s about the Trump administration deciding who gets to be American and enforcing its extreme anti-immigrant policies. Birthright citizenship has been enshrined in the Constitution for more than one century as an American fundamental right, and we cannot allow Trump’s anti-immigrant and xenophobic agenda to demolish it. As it stands, this ruling creates a system that unequally applies the law to citizens based on where they are born within these United States. It is un-American and unconstitutional. This decision cannot and will not be the last word on this topic. We urge members of Congress, state elected officials, and the courts to defend birthright citizenship tooth and nail and protect the future of the American children who will be affected.”
