Latino Victory Fund Endorses Jose Luis Pacheco for Re-Election to the CalPERS Board

WASHINGTON, D.C. June 30, 2025 — Today, Latino Victory Fund proudly announces its endorsement of Jose Luis Pacheco for re-election to Position B on the CalPERS Board of Administration, backing a candidate who brings critical lived experience, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to equity and retirement security for working families across California.

“As the only Latino voice on the CalPERS Board, Jose Luis Pacheco represents more than just a vote; he represents the values, struggles, and aspirations of millions of Latino workers who have built California’s public sector,” said Katharine Pichardo, President and CEO of Latino Victory. “He understands the power of a pension to lift a family from survival to stability. Jose Luis has been a champion for fiscal integrity, accessible healthcare, and diverse leadership, and we are proud to stand with him as he continues fighting for a system that works for all.”

CalPERS is the largest public pension fund in the country, overseeing more than $500 billion in assets on behalf of over 2.3 million active and retired public employees. From teachers and nurses to custodians and city workers, Latinos make up a vital share of California’s public workforce, and the decisions made by the CalPERS Board profoundly shape their futures.

Pacheco, a proud son of farmworkers and a second-generation union member, has spent his career advancing smart investments, healthcare access, and transparent governance. Since his election in 2021, he has pushed for risk-adjusted growth strategies, promoted diversity in fund management, and defended the rights of members against politicization and special interests. His re-election would ensure that CalPERS remains anchored in independence, accountability, and the lived realities of its members.

“This campaign is personal,” said Jose Luis Pacheco. “My mother retired with dignity because her union fought for a secure pension, and I’m running to make sure every public servant in California has the same opportunity. I’m grateful for the Latino Victory Fund’s support and proud to stand with a movement that believes in representation, equity, and the power of public service. Let’s keep building a CalPERS that works for all of us.”
