Washington, D.C.–Today, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Katharine Pichardo issued the following statement in response to the House passing Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”
“Today, Republicans in Congress sealed their betrayal of the American people by gutting essential programs for millions of working families to deliver billions in tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. This bill strips healthcare from 17 million people and slashes food assistance for 8 million of our children and elders. It also guts college affordability and progress in air quality, while pouring $70 billion into mass deportations and ICE raids, targeting Latino and immigrant communities. It expands executive power in ways that undermine the very foundation of our democracy and it makes the rich richer, while working families fall behind. There is no mistake, Republicans don’t care about economic responsibility; they care about consolidating power for Trump and his loyalists at the expense of everyday Americans.
“This was a deeply unpopular bill and by passing it, Republicans in Congress just handed Democrats one more reason to fight for American families in the midterms. We’ll make sure every single voter knows of this shameful betrayal. We call on our communities to rise, resist, and organize. From now until the midterms, Republicans own this disastrous bill, and we’ll make sure no one forgets they sold out the American people.”
