Latino Victory Fund Statement on Meeting Between President Donald Trump and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador

Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to commemorate the launch of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Nathalie Rayes issued the following statement in response:

“Mexico is the United States’ most important trading partner, and the Mexican community is the largest Latino bloc in this country—we share strong cultural and economic ties that span centuries. President Trump is using his meeting with President López Obrador as a photo-op to serve his own political agenda. Trump is a racist demagogue who called Mexicans ‘rapists’ and ‘criminals’ and, to this day, continues to promote hateful rhetoric and policies that harm the Latino community. We must elect Vice President Joe Biden because he understands the importance of building bridges with Mexico, not walls, and of cooperating with Latin America and the Caribbean to create a healthy and prosperous hemisphere that grows together.”
