Washington, D.C.–Today, Latino Victory Fund President and CEO Katharine Pichardo issued the following statement in commemoration of Independence Day:
“This Fourth of July, as we celebrate the promise of freedom and democracy, we must also confront a painful truth: that promise is under attack.
“This week, Republicans in Congress passed a bill that tramples on the ideals of a functioning democracy, one that enshrines the largest transfer of wealth from working people to the rich. It strips health care from millions, slashes food assistance for the most vulnerable, funds mass deportations in a country founded by immigrants, and expands executive power, all while delivering massive tax breaks to the wealthiest among us. The so-called ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is an assault on working families and our democratic values and a blatant power grab by MAGA Republicans, all loyal to their king, Trump. That is not what America stands for, and we cannot remain silent as this regime continues spinning our democracy into a fascist state, not on Independence Day.
“At Latino Victory, we are answering this moment with action. We’re organizing, mobilizing, and building Latino political power because representation is not symbolic; it’s essential.
