On the day the Trump campaign is launching “Latinos for Trump,” polls show a resounding rejection of President Donald Trump.
Washington, D.C.— Today, while the Trump campaign launches “Latinos for Trump,” recent polls conducted by Univision and Telemundo, measuring Latino voters’ preference for 2020 presidential candidates, show an overwhelming majority do not want to see President Donald Trump re-elected.
Latino Victory Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito issued the following statement:
“A big, beautiful wall of opposition will stand between Trump and his re-election to the White House, and that will be all in part because of Latino voters. As these polls show, President Trump has no chance in hell of winning the Latino vote in 2020. That’s why ‘that Mexican thing’ Mike Pence is showing up for him in Florida. Launching ‘Latinos for Trump’ is like putting lipstick on a pig when it comes to Trump’s harmful policies. By not bothering to announce this already-failed initiative himself, it shows that Latinos are merely an afterthought for Donald Trump.
Mark-Viverito added: “Whether it is health care, jobs and wages, or separating migrant children at the border and putting them in horrifying detention centers— which has led to a shocking number of migrant children dying under U.S. custody— Latinos cannot afford another four more years of Donald Trump. Make no mistake that if Trump wins, Latinos will be the ones who will lose the most. That’s why Latino Victory will work tirelessly to galvanize and mobilize our community to vote him out in 2020.”
The Univision/Latino Decisions poll shows only 18.6 percent of Latino voters said they plan on voting for Trump, while 62.8 percent plan on voting for the Democratic candidate who wins the primary election. The remaining 18.7 percent are undecided. Univision noted that a “significant percentage” of Latinos polled said they did not know the Democratic candidates well enough, even the ones with a national presence. Telemundo’s poll was conducted in Florida, a key diverse battleground state, and the results showed 56 percent of the Hispanic voters said they would replace Trump and 34 percent said they would re-elect him while 10 percent remain undecided.
