Washington, D.C. — Representing congressional districts with large numbers of Hispanic voters, Congressmen Michael McCaul, Chip Roy, Pete Olson, Kenny Marchant and John Carter voted against the American Dream and Promise Act — a bill that would provide DACA and TPS recipients an opportunity to earn a path towards citizenship. By voting against this bill, Congressmen McCaul, Roy, Olson, Marchant and Carter voted to deport hard working, law-abiding immigrants.
In Texas alone, there 53,740 TPS holders, and in:
-
TX-10: There are 2,200 DACA recipients and 4,500 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman Michael McCaul’s district
-
TX-21: There are 2,260 DACA recipients and 4,200 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman Chip Roy’s district
-
TX-22: There are 2,900 DACA recipients and 5,400 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman Pete Olson’s district
-
TX-24: There are 3,400 DACA recipients and 6,700 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman Kenny Marchant’s district
-
TX-31: There are 1,400 DACA recipients and 2,600 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman John Carter’s district
It is abundantly clear that they are out of touch with the needs of their districts and the issues affecting the Latino community. Latino Victory Fund National Press Secretary María R. González issued the following statement:
“Republican Congressmen Michael McCaul, Chip Roy, Pete Olson, Kenny Marchant and John Carter betrayed Texas’ Latino and immigrant communities when they voted to deport DREAMers and TPS recipients by rejecting the American Dream and Promise Act. Their votes are yet another example of how these congressmen have gone Washington and turned their backs on their constituents. The people of Texas deserve leaders who will support the will of the majority of the American people and fight to protect hard-working DREAMers and TPS recipients. It’s time for McCaul, Roy, Olson, Marchant and Carter to go.”
