Congressmen Ross Spano and Brian Mast Betray the Florida Latino & Immigrant Communities, Vote to Deport Dreamers and TPS Recipients

Washington, D.C. —  Representing congressional districts with a large number of Hispanic voters, Congressmen Ross Spano and Brian Mast voted against the American Dream and Promise Act — a bill that would provide DACA and TPS recipients an opportunity to earn a path towards citizenship. By voting against this bill, Congressmen Spano and Mast voted to deport hard working, law-abiding immigrants.

In Florida alone, there are 57,371 TPS holders, and in:

  • FL-15: There are 1,500 recipients and 3,400 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman Spano’s district

  • FL-18: There are 900 recipients and 3,000 DREAMers eligible for DACA in Congressman Mast’s district

It is abundantly clear that they are out of touch with the needs of their districts and the issues affecting the Latino community. Latino Victory Fund National Press Secretary María R. González issued the following statement:

“Republican Congressmen Ross Spano and Brian Mast betrayed Florida’s Latino and immigrant communities when they voted to deport DREAMers and TPS recipients by rejecting the American Dream and Promise Act. Their votes are yet another example of how Congressmen Spano and Mast have gone Washington and turned their backs on their constituents. The people of Florida deserve a leader who will support the will of the majority of the American people and fight to protect hard-working Dreamers and TPS recipients. It’s time for Congressmen Spano and Mast to go.”
