(Washington, D.C.) – Today, members of the Republican-led U.S. House of Representatives voted to repeal President Obama’s executive actions on immigration through amendments to H.R. 240, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act 2015. Cristóbal Alex, the President of the Latino Victory Project, released the following statement:
“President Obama took the right and necessary next step in helping families across the country have opportunities to succeed and fully contribute to our economy. Despite poll after poll showing strong support for the need to pass comprehensive immigration reform from Latinos and all Americans across the political spectrum, no action was taken.
“The amendments passed by House members today works to not only repeal a positive and popular initiative for our community but also one that is estimated to grow the U.S. economy by $90 billion over the next 10 years. The bill also goes far beyond any reasonable thinking – holding key immigration measures over the heads of the American people in votes to fund the Department of Homeland Security could put our national security at risk and would have serious consequences for the future of our country. We hope that as the Senate considers funding the Department of Homeland Security, Senators do not continue this political theatre and shut down this ill-thought out proposal.”
