Latino Victory Condemns Cruel and Immoral Treatment of Haitian Migrants in the U.S.-Mexico Border

Washington, D.C. — Today, the El Paso Times reported that U.S. Border Patrol agents engaged in violence against Haitian migrants seeking asylum in the U.S.–Mexico border in Del Rio, Texas. Nathalie Rayes, President and CEO of Latino Victory, released the following statement condemning the violence against Haitian asylum seekers.

“We are deeply disturbed by the images coming out of Del Rio, Texas. Border Patrol agents swinging whips at Haitian migrants seeking asylum in the United States is cruel, immoral, and inhumane. Our country’s federal agents must not subject human beings to this level of cruelty.

“We call on the Border Patrol to ensure immigrants are treated with dignity and compassion, especially Haitian migrants who have already lived through extreme hardships fleeing political instability and natural disasters in their home country. We call on the Biden administration to put an end to the mistreatment of Haitian refugees and address the systemic abuse that is prevalent in Border Patrol.”
