Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory Fund strongly condemns President Donald J. Trump’s latest executive order seeking to overhaul U.S. elections by requiring documentary proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections and imposing unnecessary restrictions on ballot deadlines.
“Trump is once again trying to rig democracy in his favor by making it harder for Americans, especially Latinos, to vote,” said Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, President and CEO of Latino Victory. “This latest executive order isn’t making our elections safe. It is simply yet another unconstitutional power grab, and an attempt to wrest control from the states, which are primarily responsible for regulating and administering elections for federal office. It is also an attempt to make registering to vote more difficult, imposing a massive hurdle on many American citizens who have a right to choose their elected representatives. We will fight this attempt to suppress our voices and stand with the states challenging this. Every American must have a fair and equal right to vote, without intimidation, without discrimination, and without fear.”
