Washington, D.C. – Latino Victory Fund president & CEO Nathalie Rayes issued the following statement congratulating Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff for winning their Senate races in Georgia.
“Georgia voters have made it clear that they are ready for a Senate that works for the people of Georgia and all Americans. Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will effect a change that was urgently needed in the Senate. The times of Republican gridlock that maimed the Senate’s ability to pass legislation to improve the American people’s lives are over. We can breathe a sigh of relief because a Democratic Senate will get to work on day one to expand access to health care, pass a humane immigration reform, and lead our nation out of the pandemic crisis and the economic devastation it has caused.
“We applaud the remarkable efforts of organizers and activists to mobilize voters of colors, especially Black and Latino voters, paid off in a resounding win for our country. Latino Victory Fund congratulates Reverend Warnock and Ossoff — two dedicated public servants who are ready to work for Georgia and the American people.”
In December, Latino Victory Fund hosted the ¡Vamos, Georgia! Tour, a weekend of action to galvanize Georgia’s Latino communities to vote in the runoff elections and support Senate candidates Reverend Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff. Led by Latino Victory Fund co-founders Eva Longoria Bastón and Henry R. Muñoz III, Latino Victory Board Member Kyle Ferari-Muñoz, Mexican-American actress Kate Del Castillo, actress and activist America Ferrera, and Grammy-winning artist Frankie Negrón, the tour stopped in Latino-heavy cities, including Dalton, Marietta, Forest Park, Atlanta, and Duluth.
The events featured roundtable discussions with Latino small business owners and community members, press conferences, and lit drop launches, culminating in a GOTV car rally in support of the Senate Democratic candidates. Latino Victory Fund first held a ¡Vamos, Georgia! Tour to mobilize Latinos during the 2018 midterm elections. The organization identified the importance of Latino voters in Georgia since 2017 when it launched its Georgia Chapter. Latino Victory has since supported Georgia candidates and held events to mobilize Latino voters and will continue to include this important battleground state in its political programming.
