Latino Victory Fund Announces Six-Figure Investment to Support Yvette Valdés Smith in NY State Senate Race

Independent Expenditure effort by Latino Victory, a prominent national organization, will boost Valdés Smith’s GOTV push.

WASHINGTON October 24, 2024 – Today, Latino Victory Fund, the most influential national organization helping to build political power within the Latino community and representation at every level of government, announced its support for Yvette Valdés Smith’s campaign for New York State Senate with a six-figure independent expenditure. This investment by Latino Victory will help boost voter turnout and raise awareness about Valdés Smith’s plans, as part of a robust Get Out the Vote (GOTV) effort.

Valdés Smith is committed to fighting for stronger public schools, taking on climate change, and preserving healthcare rights, including abortion access. She currently serves as the Minority Leader in the Dutchess County Legislature.

“As a national progressive organization dedicated to ensuring that Latinos always have a seat at the table, we understand the critical impact of supporting Latino candidates like Yvette Valdés Smith. When Latino candidates succeed, Latino voter turnout increases, strengthening their campaigns and creating a ripple effect that energizes voters and benefits other candidates across the district,” said Luis A. Miranda, Jr., Latino Victory Board Chair. “This is about building long-lasting political power for our community. We’re proud to invest in Yvette’s campaign and encourage all voters in the 39th Senate District to cast their ballot for her and make their voices heard.”

“Yvette Valdés Smith understands that voters in the Hudson Valley and New York deserve leaders who stand up for common solutions that uplift the middle class and those striving to get there. As a parent and former public school teacher, Yvette will work hard to strengthen our schools, address climate change, and ensure that the next generation of New Yorkers has the same rights that all of us have benefited from. Latino Victory proudly supports a candidate who embodies these values.”said Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, Latino Victory Executive Director.

Latino Victory’s Independent Expenditure in support of Valdés Smith consists of mail, phones, texts, and digital advertising that highlights her plans for investing in the Hudson Valley’s working families and on her background as a public-school teacher and a community leader. The ads also support the top of the Democratic ticket, including Pat Ryan in the overlapping congressional district (NY-18) and the Harris/Walz ticket.
