Galán-Woods would be the first Latina elected to Congress in Arizona
Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund endorsed Marlene Galán-Woods, candidate for Arizona 1st Congressional District. If elected, Galán-Woods would make history by becoming the first Latina in Arizona elected to Congress.
Latino Victory endorsed Galán-Woods as part of its “First Latinas” program, which aims to increase the Latina bench in Congress and strengthen Latina representation at all government levels across the country.
Statement by Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Sindy M. Benavides on Marlene Galán-Woods:
“Marlene is part of a generation of powerhouse Latinas running for office to ensure working families and communities get their fair share of opportunity. She held the powerful accountable as a broadcast journalist for 20 years, raised five children, and dedicated her time to advocating for children. She’s also a staunch supporter of women’s reproductive freedom and has defended voting rights for Arizona, knowing all too well that democracy is in peril and that Congress needs more fighters to defend it. When Latinas run for office and win, they uplift families, support marginalized communities and transform our country. Marlene’s candidacy would have the potential to increase the Latina bench in Congress, and break one more glass ceiling for Latinas and all Latinos in Arizona and nationwide. Latino Victory Fund is proud to support Marlene Galán-Woods”
