The slate includes two candidates who are poised to make history if they win in November: Christina Hale in Indiana and Teresa Leger Fernandez in New Mexico.
Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory congratulates its endorsed congressional slate in Indiana and New Mexico after advancing in Tuesday’s primary election to the general election in November.
The candidates are Christina Hale, Indiana 5th Congressional District; Teresa Leger Fernandez, New Mexico 3rd Congressional District; Ben Ray Luján, U.S. Senate-New Mexico, and Xochitl Torres Small, New Mexico 2nd Congressional District.
“We’re ready to replicate the 2018 midterm elections results and increase Latino representation in Congress in 2020,” said Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Fund president and CEO. “This phenomenal cadre of Latina and Latino leaders has spent decades working to advance our communities’ top issues. They’re the fearless champions we need to advocate for our working families in New Mexico and Indiana during these trying times. Latino Victory is proud to stand with them and ensure that we send them to Congress in November.”
If elected in November, Hale would be the first Latina to represent Indiana in Congress. Leger Fernandez would be the first Latina elected to represent New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District if she is elected. New Mexico’s three congressional seats are also closer to being held by women of color, which would be a milestone for the state. Lujan and Torres Small have made history in the past–Lujan is the first Latino assistant speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives and Torres Small is the first Latina elected to represent New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District.
