Latino Victory Fund Congratulates Congressman Antonio Delgado for Being Appointed Lieutenant Governor of New York

Washington, D.C. — New York Gov. Kathy Hochul today announced that she will appoint Congressman Antonio Delgado to be lieutenant governor of New York State.

Statement from Board Chair Luis A. Miranda, Jr.

“This appointment clearly indicates the importance of speaking up, and advocating for representation and inclusion in the positions and levels of public service that we believe are right.  Many leaders openly spoke about the need to have a member of the Latinx community in the New York Lieutenant Governor’s race, and the Governor obviously heard our voice. Antonio Delgado has a strong background of advocating on behalf of diversity, representation and justice. I wish him the best in his new role, and I look forward to continuing the conversation to improve diversity and representation in all levels of government, not only by advocating for strong candidates but also ensuring that the people at the top listen to the need to have Latinx inclusion and representation at the table.”

Statement from Latino Victory Fund President and CEO Nathalie Rayes:

“We congratulate Congressman Delgado for being appointed lieutenant governor of New York. He has a proven track record of fighting for a fairer, more prosperous New York in Congress. It’s important for New York’s executive government to reflect the diverse communities it governs, and to have qualified leaders like Congressman Delgado serving in the state’s highest office. Latino Victory Fund was among the first to call for a Latino or Latina to be appointed to ensure that the state’s Latino population is represented in the governor’s office. We want to express our gratitude to Governor Kathy Hochul for appointing Congressman Delgado.

“As a long-time supporter of Congressman Delgado, a twice Latino Victory endorsee, we are proud to witness his rise in elected office, which is a testament to Latino Victory’s commitment to helping build long-term Latino political power at all levels of government. Now that Congressman Delgado will begin his tenure as lieutenant governor, we hope to see another Latino or Latina serving in the newly vacated 19th Congressional District.”
