Latino Victory Fund Congratulates Emily Randall and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez on Advancing to the General Election in the Race for Congress

Triple Crown: If elected to Congress, Randall will be the first woman to represent WA-06, the first openly LGBTQ member from Washington, and the first openly LGBTQ Latina to serve in Congress.

Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund congratulates Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, re-election candidate for Washington’s 3rd Congressional District, and State Senator Emily Randall, candidate for Washington’s 6th Congressional District, for advancing to the general election in Tuesday’s primary election. The primary election final results for Randall’s race were announced early Wednesday.

If elected, Randall would achieve three milestones—she would be the first woman to represent Washington’s 6th Congressional District, the first openly LGBTQ member from Washington in Congress, and the first openly LGBTQ Latina to serve in Congress.

Statement from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO on Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez:

“Congresswoman Gluesenkamp Perez is a dedicated advocate for issues that strengthen the Latino community’s quality of life. She’s an invaluable voice in Congress fighting for worker’s rights, lower healthcare and prescription drug costs, and economic opportunity for all. She’s a small business owner and mother who understands the struggle many working families face when trying to secure health care, affordable childcare, and a living wage. Her career and life experience make her an exceptional leader and champion for working Americans. Latino Victory Fund congratulates Congresswoman Gluesenkamp Perez for advancing to the general election.”

Statement from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO on State Senator Emily Randall:

“We’re thrilled to congratulate State Senator Randall on advancing to the general election. She’s one step closer to breaking barriers for the Latino and LGBTQ communities and increasing the Latina bench in Congress. She’s an experienced state legislator who has fought and won key legislative victories to expand healthcare access and financial aid for students and has advocated for anti-racism measures in colleges and universities. Congress needs more leaders like Senator Randall who will fight for affordable healthcare access, more education and job training opportunities, and support policies to protect our environment for future generations. Latino Victory Fund is proud to congratulate Senator Randall and we will work to ensure she makes history by representing the 6th Congressional District in Washington.”

Glueseknamp Perez is part of Latino Victory Fund’s “Our Champions” incumbent protection program. Randall’s endorsement is part of Latino Victory Fund’s “First Latinas” program, which aims to increase the number of Latinas elected to public office and support Latinas who would be the ‘first’ elected to their respective seats.
