Latino Victory Fund Congratulates ‘First Latina’ Candidate Gabby Salinas for Winning Primary Election Race for Tennessee House of Representatives District 97

Washington, D.C. – Latino Victory Fund congratulates Gabby Salinas for winning the primary election race for the 97th District of the Tennessee House of Representatives. If Salinas wins in the November general election, she would be the first woman and the first Latina to represent the 97th District in the Tennessee House of Representatives.

“Gabby faced unimaginable life challenges with resilience, and she rose above them with a strong resolve to advocate for equity for her community,” said Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Fund president & CEO. “She’s fought to expand Medicaid and will continue this fight in the state House, along with advocating for more investment in education and common-sense gun laws to protect Tennesseans. Latino Victory will work tirelessly to ensure Gabby breaks this long-standing barrier for Latinas in Tennessee and becomes the first Latina elected to the state legislature in November.”

Salinas is part of Latino Victory’s ‘First Latinas’ program, which aims to increase Latina representation in government by supporting Latinas who are running for seats that have never had a Latina representative or who will achieve a ‘first’ milestone.  She is a Bolivian immigrant, a scientist, a healthcare advocate, and a three-time cancer survivor. She’s pursuing her Ph.D. in pharmaceutical sciences, and her research focuses on discovering new therapies for drug-resistant malaria. Salinas is running to give back to the community that gave her a chance at life. Read more about Salinas HERE.
