WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory Fund congratulates Jennifer Gutiérrez for her victory in the New York City Council District 34 Democratic primary. Council Member Gutiérrez will advance to the general election continuing her fight for a second term representing Williamsburg and Bushwick in Brooklyn and Ridgewood in Queens.
Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Sindy Benavides released the following statement:
“Latino Victory Fund is proud to congratulate Jennifer Gutiérrez on her well-earned victory in the Democratic primary for New York City Council District 34. After spending nearly a decade as an organizer and activist, Council Member Gutiérrez has used her position to address the issues most important to her community. She spent her first term standing up for increased worker protections, environmental justice, and affordable housing. She has been a champion for her constituents, playing a leading role in passing landmark legislation such as the Right to Know Act, a law that brought greater transparency to police stops in New York City. Jenifer also sponsored INT 0142, establishing a task force to support working mothers and caregivers, and published her land use policy to protect affordable housing and small businesses within her district last year. We look forward to continuing our support for Council Member Gutiérrez in the general election.”
