Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Sindy Benavides released the following statement:
“We are proud to congratulate Mario Castillo on his well-earned victory in Houston’s city council elections. Castillo has long been a champion for his community and will now become the first out LGBTQ+ person to represent Houston’s District H. A native Houstonian and grandson of an immigrant, Castillo will continue to serve constituents as he has for his entire career, with dedication and enthusiasm. As councilman, he has bold plans to provide neighborhoods with the tools to protect themselves from gentrification and will focus on the expansion of access to affordable healthcare within the District. We look forward to continuing our support for Castillo and his dedicated efforts to serve the people of District H.”
