Latino Victory Fund Congratulates New York City Council Candidates for Winning Primary Election

Washington, D.C. – Latino Victory Fund congratulates Diana Ayala, Jennifer Gutiérrez, Carlina Rivera, and Marjorie Velázquez on their victories in the New York City Democratic Primary. Ayala and Rivera were reelected as the Democratic nominees, Gutiérrez is the Democratic nominee to represent District 34, and Velázquez could become the first Latina to represent District 13, if elected in November.

“These are phenomenal Latina candidates who are front and center in the fight for a New York where working families have opportunities for a quality life with good-paying jobs, better schools and doctors’ visits that won’t bankrupt them,” said Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Fund President and CEO. “New York’s City Council represents 2 million Latinos, and after these victories, our community is closer to having an even more resounding voice to speak for them at City Hall.

“Each time issues like health care access, housing affordability, reproductive rights, and jobs are addressed in the Council, there should be more council members to speak up to ensure these policies translate into real-life results. Latino Victory is thrilled to congratulate Diana, Jennifer, Carlina, and Marjorie, and we look forward to seeing them executing their vision for an inclusive, thriving city.”
