WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory Fund announced its endorsement of Alfonso Lopez for Virginia’s 3rd House of Delegates District.
Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Sindy Benavides released the following statement:
“Latino Victory is excited to endorse Alfonso Lopez for Virginia House of Delegates. For more than a decade, Lopez has represented the 49th District as the first Latino Democrat elected to the legislative body. Now, Lopez is running in the newly-created third District. Lopez brings with him trusted leadership and experience. As Virginia House of Delegates Minority and Majority Whip, he helped pass legislation increasing teacher’s salaries, enacted the Safe Voters Act, and expanded Medicare for 500,000 Virginians. His campaign for Virginia’s 3rd House of Delegates District is leading the charge on educational rights, reproductive rights, and an equitable economy.
“As the son of a formerly undocumented immigrant from Venezuela, Lopez understands the challenges new American communities face in Virginia and the importance of advocating for immigrant communities. He has fought for the Latino community in Virginia as president of the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia, and as founding member of Virgnina’s first Legislative Latino caucus. Alfonso Lopez has our full support as he continues to champion Virginians in District three and beyond.”
