Washington, D.C. –Latino Victory Fund endorsed Aníbal Acevedo Vilá for Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico in Congress. Acevedo Vilá’s endorsement is the first Latino Victory Fund has made for a Puerto Rico-based government seat.

Meet Aníbal Acevedo
Aníbal Acevedo Vilá is running to represent Puerto Rico in Congress. He is a Democrat running to unseat incumbent Republican and Trump-ally, Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colón. Jenniffer is now the national co-chair and event headliner for the ‘Latinos for Trump’. Acevedo Vilá’s objectives include creating opportunities to work at well-paying jobs and to provide for our families, to have access to quality and affordable health care, to live in a safe and sustainable environment, to revamp our public education, and to return to self-governance and realize our potential as a nation. His top priorities for Puerto Rico also include bringing back pharma manufacturing to Puerto Rico to help create well-paying jobs, ensure that federal funds allocated to Puerto Rico are timely utilized and disbursed and work to restore Puerto Rico’s credibility with Congress and all federal agencies.
Acevedo Vilá is a lifelong public servant that has worked his way up from a legislative aide for Puerto Rican Governor Hernández Colón to Resident Commissioner from 2000-2004 to governor of Puerto Rico from 2005 to 2009. In 1992 at the age of 30, he won election as a Popular Democrat to the Puerto Rican house of representatives, and after only five years in the legislature, he was elevated to minority leader. After serving one-term as Resident Commissioner, Acevedo Vilá ran for governor of Puerto Rico, which he won against former governor Pedro Rosselló.
