Latino Victory Fund Endorses Elizabeth Guzmán for Virginia House of Delegates, District 22

National PAC backs trailblazing Latina leader in the fight to flip the last Republican-held seat in Prince William County.

Washington, DC – April 14, 2025– Latino Victory Fund announced today the endorsement of Elizabeth Guzmán for Virginia House of Delegates, District 22. Guzmán was the first Latina elected to the Virginia General Assembly in its 200-year history and is now running to continue bringing inclusive, values-driven leadership to one of Virginia’s most competitive districts, while capturing for the Democrats the last Republican-held seat in Prince William County.

“As one of the first Latinas elected to the Virginia General Assembly, Elizabeth Guzmán has consistently delivered for working families. She’s a fighter, a coalition builder, and a policy expert with lived experience that reflects her district’s everyday struggles and aspirations,” said Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, President & CEO of Latino Victory Fund. “Latino Victory Fund is proud to stand with Elizabeth Guzmán as she continues her mission to uplift the voices of the 22nd District and Virginians.”

Meet Elizabeth Guzmán: From Immigrant to Advocate

Elizabeth Guzmán’s journey from working three jobs as a single mother to becoming one of Virginia’s pioneering Latina lawmakers is a testament to her perseverance, purpose, and fulfillment of the American dream. A Peruvian-American social worker and public policy expert, Guzmán immigrated to the United States for a better life for her family. Through hard work and education, earning degrees from Northern Virginia Community College, Capella University, American University, and the University of Southern California, she built a foundation rooted in service and advocacy.

Elected in 2017, Guzmán made history and immediately set to work fighting for those often left out of the political process. Her leadership helped expand collective bargaining rights, secure paid sick leave for home care workers, and advance progressive reforms on healthcare access and criminal justice.

Now, she’s running to represent District 22, a rapidly growing and diverse community that reflects the future of Virginia. With deep roots in the district and a bold, inclusive vision for progress, Guzmán is  ready to bring home a critical win for working families, immigrants, and underserved communities.

“I know what it means to fight for a better life, and I will never stop fighting for the families of Prince William counties,” said Guzmán. “This campaign is about ensuring every resident, no matter their background or zip code, has access to opportunity, dignity, and a voice in the policies that affect their lives.”

Why This Race Matters

District 22, located in the heart of Northern Virginia, is one of the most important battlegrounds in the state. While voters have increasingly embraced progressive values, the seat has remained under Republican control. Electing Elizabeth Guzmán would flip the last remaining GOP-held seat in Prince William County and help deliver a more reflective and equitable General Assembly.

With approximately 10% of the district’s population identifying as Latino and many more residents from immigrant and multicultural backgrounds, Guzmán’s candidacy represents both a historic opportunity and a necessary step toward inclusive governance.

“We know the power of Latino voters—and we know what’s at stake,” said Pichardo-Erskine. “Elizabeth Guzmán is the leader this district needs: experienced, principled, and deeply connected to the community she serves. Latino Victory Fund urges every voter in District 22 to turn out, make history, and help flip this seat for Democrats.”
