Latino Victory Fund Endorses Emily Randall for Congress and Rebecca Saldaña for Public Lands Commissioner

Triple Crown: If elected to Congress, Randall will be the first woman to represent WA-06, the first openly LGBTQ member from Washington, and the first openly LGBTQ Latina to serve in Congress.

If elected, Saldaña will become the first Latina in an executive office in the state of Washington.

Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund, an influential national Latino political organization that works to increase Latino representation, announced the endorsement of State Senator Emily Randall for Washington’s 6th Congressional District and State Senator Rebecca Saldaña for Public Lands Commissioner.

If elected, Randall would achieve three milestones—she would be the first woman to represent Washington’s 6th Congressional District, the first openly LGBTQ member from Washington in Congress, and the first openly LGBTQ Latina to serve in Congress. Saldaña would be the first Latina elected to executive office in the state of Washington.

Randall’s and Saldañas’ endorsements are part of Latino Victory Fund’s “First Latinas” program, which aims to increase the number of Latinas elected to public office and support Latinas who would be the ‘first’ elected to their respective seats.

Statement from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO:

“Senator Randall’s historic candidacy will break barriers for the Latino and LGBTQ communities, and strengthen the bench of Latinas in Congress. She’s a formidable candidate because she’s an experienced state legislator, and has fought and won key legislative victories to expand health care access and financial aid for students as well as being an advocate for anti-racism measures in colleges and universities. Congress needs more leaders like Senator Randall who will fight for affordable health care access, more education and job training opportunities and supporting policies to protect our environment for future generations. Senator Randall’s candidacy is the beginning of what would be a historic moment for Latinos in Washington and across the country. Latino Victory Fund is proud to stand with Senator Randall to ensure she wins this important race.”

Statement from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO:

“Senator Saldaña has dedicated her career to serving her community and is a fierce defender of labor rights and environmental justice. She knows that the only way to effect meaningful change in the fight for equality is by including affected communities in policy-making, which is an innovative way to govern that can garner positive results. Her legislative victories include the HEAL Act, which addressed the disproportionate exposure communities of color and low-income communities have to environmental hazards, and the Washington Voting Rights Act, which expands voting access to underrepresented communities. Senator Saldaña brings a forward-thinking, fresh new perspective to leadership. As public lands commissioner, she’ll govern with a people-first focus. Latino Victory Fund is proud to support Senator Saldaña for public lands commissioner in this historic race for Latinas in Washington.”
