Latino Victory Fund Endorses Georgette Gómez for Congress

If elected, Gómez would be the first openly LGBTQ Latino/a elected to Congress.

Washington, D.C.– Today, Latino Victory Fund announced the endorsement of Georgette Gómez for California’s 53rd Congressional District. Gómez made history in 2018 by becoming the first LGBTQ Latina elected as San Diego City Council President and is poised to make history once again if she is elected to Congress as the first LGBTQ Latina to do so. She would also be the first Latina to represent this district.

Latino Victory Executive Director Mayra Macías issued the following statement:

“Georgette Gómez has spent her entire career working on behalf of the people of San Diego. Whether it was organizing her community for over a decade to keep polluting industries away or being unanimously elected as the first LGBTQ Latina serving as president of the San Diego City Council, she has always put her community first. Latino Victory Fund is proud to endorse Gómez because we know that she will continue fighting for a better future for San Diego’s hardworking families. From tackling the climate crisis to providing access to quality and affordable healthcare for all, Gómez is the candidate San Diegans deserve in Congress.

Macías added, “This history-making race represents so much for our community as Gómez would be the first LGBTQ Latino/a elected to the United States Congress. It is past time we send an openly LGBTQ Latino to Washington, D.C.  and Latino Victory will be there to ensure we make history this November.”
