If elected, Candelaria Reardon would be the first Latino/a elected to Congress in Indiana.

Washington, D.C.– Today, Latino Victory Fund announced the endorsement of Mara Candelaria Reardon for Indiana’s 1st Congressional District. Candelaria Reardon made history in 2006, when she became the first Latina elected to the Indiana State Legislature. If elected, Candelaria Reardon will make history once more and become the first Latino/a elected to Congress from Indiana.

Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Mayra Macías issued the following statement:

“Mara Candelaria Reardon is a formidable legislator who has devoted her life to public service. Candelaria Reardon’s family has a history of breaking barriers and serving their communities. Her father, Isabelino Candelaria, was the first Puerto Rican appointed to a city council in Indiana and her mother is Victoria Soto, the first Latina elected president of the Indiana Federation of Teachers. We are thrilled to stand by Candelaria Reardon’s side as she continues to blaze the trail for future Latino leaders in Indiana.

“As a state legislator, Candelaria Reardon has shown that she is a proven leader, the kind of leader we need in Congress. She has fought for working families, women and for her community’s well-being in the state legislature, and she will continue working to ensure that Indiana’s 1st Congressional District has a fighter in Washington, D.C. Latino Victory Fund is proud to endorse this history-making Latina leader and public servant.”
