Washington, D.C.—Latino Victory Fund announced its endorsement of Councilwoman Shamaine Daniels for Pennsylvania’s 10th Congressional District and Councilwoman Mercedes Evans for the 103rd District in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
Daniels would be the first Latina to represent Pennsylvania in Congress if elected, while Evans would be the first Latina to represent the 103rd District. Latino Victory’s support for Daniels and Evans is part of its “First Latinas” campaign, which aims to increase Latina representation in Congress.
Statement on Shamaine Daniels from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO:
“Shamaine’s’ dedication to her community is a force for good—she’s fought for small businesses, voter protections, and affordable housing. She’s a champion for working families and an advocate for workers’ rights and civil rights. As an immigrant who worked hard to graduate from law school, Shamaine understands the struggle and work it takes to achieve the American Dream. She’s running for Congress because she believes opportunities for economic mobility should be available to all, regardless of background or situation in life. Shamaine will be a powerful voice in Congress, one who fights to protect our democracy, ensures that when our economy thrives, so do working families and that Pennsylvanians can go to the doctor without fearing bankruptcy.
“Latino Victory Fund is proud to support Shamaine Daniels for Congress, and we’re thrilled to stand by her side to ensure she makes history as the first Latina elected to represent Pennsylvania in Congress. Her historic race will shatter the glass ceiling for Latinas and the Latino community in Pennsylvania, and move the state closer to truly being a representative democracy.”
Statement on Mercedes Evans from Sindy M. Benavides, Latino Victory Fund President & CEO:
“Mercedes is a steadfast leader who has worked to improve her community by serving in the public and non-profit sectors and the Camp Hill Borough City Council. She’s ready to take the next step in public service by working for her community in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives and addressing critical issues affecting District 103. The district and the state of Pennsylvania will gain a powerful voice who will join the fight to build more affordable housing and lower the cost of living, fight for women’s reproductive freedom, and invest in quality education for future generations. Mercedes’ historic candidacy has the potential not only to elect the first Latina to represent District 103 but to expand the number of Latina state representatives and strengthen the pipeline for future generations of Latinas. Latino Victory Fund is thrilled to endorse Mercedes Evans for state representative, and we look forward to seeing her break one more glass ceiling for Latinas and women in elected office.”
