Latino Victory Fund on Latino Leaders Meeting with Trump Administration Officials

Washington, D.C. – Cristóbal J. Alex, President of Latino Victory Fund, issued the following statement before today’s meeting between Latino leaders and Trump administration officials.

“As Latino leaders meet today with Trump administration officials, we call on them to represent the community they serve, and demand that the Trump administration guarantee that DREAMers will be safe from deportation – that those who have DACA will be able to keep it, and that their information will be safe and not used to target them or their families. The Trump administration officials must ensure that millions of Latinos will continue to have access to quality preventive and primary healthcare through the ACA and Planned Parenthood.

“We expect Latino leaders to speak loud and clear, to draw a line in the sand and represent the best interests and wellbeing of our community. Unfortunately, we think it’s no coincidence that Trump is holding his first press conference, and first post-election meeting with Latino leaders on the same day that Senate hearings to confirm his extreme rightwing cabinet begin – this is all a plot to distract media from Senate confirmation hearings.

“While we don’t know who are the leaders attending this meeting, before dancing with the devil they should keep in mind that Latinos are watching their every move. We urge those in the meeting to push back strongly against policies that hurt our nation, and to be careful to not fall into the trap that others have of being used as a tool to legitimize harmful policies.”
