Responding to the horrifying news that a fifth child has died while in Border Patrol custody, Latino Victory Fund Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito issued the following statement:
“Five immigrant children have died while in United States custody as a direct result of President Trump’s anti-immigrant policies. This should have never happened. These deaths will forever be associated with President Trump and the complicit Republicans in Congress who have failed to hold this administration accountable. Republicans in Congress must uphold our values and join Democrats in demanding an investigation into these atrocities and hold those responsible accountable.
“Make no mistake, the innocent children who’ve died under Trump’s watch, every attack against our community made by this administration, and each family that has been torn apart by Trump’s deportation machine will serve as a reminder that as long as Trump and Republicans control Washington, our community and American values will always be at risk.”
