Latino Victory Fund Renews its Calls on Presidential Candidates to Visit Puerto Rico and to Make Recovery Efforts a Priority for their Campaign
Washington, D.C. — Responding to President Trump’s latest disparaging remarks towards Puerto Rico and its elected officials, Latino Victory Fund Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito issued the following statement:
“The latest outburst of lies by President Trump against Puerto Rico shows the urgency of ushering new leadership to the White House that will treat the issues affecting Puerto Ricans and displaced families with the seriousness and compassion they deserve. Whether we are living in Puerto Rico, or near the border, Latinos are under siege by a racist President. We’ve had enough — more than enough. Come 2020, Americans must vote him out and Latino Victory will be at the center of that push.”
Mark-Viverito added: “Until then, Latino Victory Fund won’t stop holding President Trump accountable and pushing for recovery efforts to remain a national priority. We renew our call to presidential hopefuls to commit to visit Puerto Rico during the early stages of their campaigns in support of Puerto Rico and the thousands of displaced families.”
In January, Latino Victory Fund called on all Democratic candidates to commit to visit Puerto Rico during the early stages of their campaigns and to make the island’s recovery efforts a top priority.
