Latino Victory Fund on Republican Representative Chip Roy Blocking Disaster Aid

In yet another attempt by fringe Republicans to inject their anti-immigrant agenda to the disaster aid package that was recently passed in the Senate, today, vulnerable Texas Republican Representative Chip Roy blocked the unanimous consent request to pass the desperately needed disaster aid package that would benefit Texas and Puerto Rico, among other disaster-impacted areas. Responding to Rep. Roy’s callous actions, Latino Victory Fund Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito issued the following statement:

“The fact that Republican Representative Chip Roy would inject his personal politics to advance his anti-immigrant agenda ahead of the needs of his fellow Texans is despicable. Immigration and disaster aid are two separate issues and Congress should treat them as such. Millions throughout the United States and Puerto Rico are counting on this disaster aid package, and delaying it any longer puts their livelihood at risk. With this cruel action, Rep. Roy makes it abundantly clear that he does not belong in Congress. Texans deserve a representative who will fight for them and not against their own interests. It’s time for Chip Roy to go.”
