Latino Victory Fund on the 88th Anniversary of Social Security

WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory Fund celebrates the 88th anniversary of Social Security. In the decades since the historic legislation passed, Social Security has provided benefits for millions of American working families.

Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Sindy Benavides released the following statement:

“In the decades since Social Security was signed into law, the program has helped millions of Latino families across the country. Attempts by Republicans to cut Social Security benefits show that the GOP’s values align more with big corporations and special interests than middle and working class families. If these cuts to Social Security and other programs become a reality, it will reduce access to affordable healthcare and essential benefits for all Americans while disproportionately affecting communities of color. The Latino community understands the great importance of these benefits, and as our numbers grow, our values must be reflected in our nation’s policies. Latino Victory’s guiding principle remains recruiting, training, and electing the candidates who reflect our goals and values, including standing up to attacks on Social Security.”
