Latino Victory Fund on the Ousting of Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker

WASHINGTON – On Tuesday, the House voted to oust Kevin McCarthy from the top post in the House, making him the first-ever to be removed from the position.

Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Sindy Benavides issued the following statement:
“This week, we watched a historic undoing of Kevin McCarthy by a far-right group of House Republicans who have plunged the government into chaos. Republicans proved, yet again, that they are unfit to lead in Congress—they are unfit to govern. A recent Univision News poll reveals Latino voters are a highly-sophisticated voting bloc who are less concerned with party loyalty and more concerned with electing candidates who are going to get the job done—especially at a time when the cost of living, health care and affordable housing are top concerns. While Republicans continue to play political theater in Washington, Latino voters want to see progress on our policy agenda, and we will remember come next November who the leaders are who get things done. Our democracy is in urgent need of leadership that will focus on the work—not political positioning and back room deals to appease the few from the far-right. Latino voters will not forget this moment—and it will manifest in Democrats taking back the House in 2024.”
