Washington, D.C. – Latino Victory Fund President and CEO Nathalie Rayes issued the following statement following the SCOTUS decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
“Today is a dark and heartbreaking day for our country. This Supreme Court ruling is devastating, horrifying and unprecedented. The highest Court in the land has ended a 50-year constitutional right to abortion by overturning Roe and Casey and endangering the lives of millions of people.
“Overturning Roe v. Wade dissolves a 50-year right that gave women agency over their bodies, their health, and their lives. This right has now been returned to the states, putting the health and lives of people in the hands of extremists and GOP-controlled legislatures that vowed to end abortion and roll back the fundamental rights of women. This decision is especially devastating for Latinas and women of color, who are the most vulnerable and will be most significantly impacted by this decision. Latinos support reproductive rights, with 60 percent of adults agreeing that abortion should be legal.
“The line on the sand has been drawn in the fight for reproductive rights—and we cannot give away one inch in the 2022 midterms. Now, more than ever, we need to elect candidates to local and state offices who will support and fight for reproductive freedom. We will not stay silent. The fight is not over.”
