Latino Victory Fund Statement on Donald Trump’s Official Nomination at the Republican National Convention

Washington, D.C.—Today, the Republican National Committee nominated Donald Trump for the presidency of the Unite States at the Republic National Convention. Pili Tobar, Latino Victory Fund advocacy and communications director, released the following statement:

“Today, the Republican Party officially turned its back on the Latino community and on the values that make our nation the land of inclusion and opportunity. We knew this day would come, yet we are still disheartened to see that the same nation that gave rise to titans of hope and tolerance such as Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt and César Chávez is the same nation where a racist, intolerant bigot can be nominated for president. Trump is a danger to the Latino community and to the values of equality and tolerance that this nation represents.

“By nominating Trump, the Republican Party has once again scarred its relationship with one of the most powerful voting blocks in this country and begun its demise. The numbers don’t lie; A total of 79 percent of Latinos surveyed on the first night of the Republican convention said they have an unfavorable view of Trump, while 88 percent said they do not love him – as he claims -, 83 percent view him as racist and 79% view him as unstable. Latino Victory Fund will work tirelessly to ensure that his anti-immigrant, anti-Latino, anti-Muslim, and anti-women ideas remain in his head and out of the White House. Latino voters will hold Trump and the rest of the Republican Party accountable in November.”
