Latino Victory Fund Statement on Mario Castillo’s Advancement to the Runoff in Houston City Council Race

WASHINGTON – Today, Latino Victory Fund reiterated its support for Mario Castillo after he advanced to the runoff election in the race for Houston City Council District H. 

Castillo has previously served as Chief of Staff to outgoing Houston City Councilmember Karla Cisneros in District H and currently serves as Executive Director of Your Houston, a nonprofit that improves the quality of life for Houstonians. If elected, he will become the first out LGBTQ+ person to represent Houston’s District H. 

Latino Victory Fund Executive Director Sindy Benavides released the following statement:

“Houston is a diverse, vibrant city that is home to a powerhouse Latino community, which is why increasing Latino representation in the City Council must be a priority. Latino Victory is proud to support Mario Castillo because he would not only add one more Latino voice to the council but he would also increase representation for the LGBTQ+ community. Castillo is a dedicated advocate and throughout his career, has fought to improve the lives of all Houstonians. If elected, he will focus on ensuring District H has the resources necessary to thrive, supporting small businesses, ensuring neighborhoods are safe and affordable, and expanding affordable health care. Latino Victory Fund stands with Mario Castillo as he embarks on the runoff election and will work to ensure he wins this historic race.”
