Today, Latino Victory Fund Interim President Melissa Mark-Viverito issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019:
“The House of Representatives has reached a milestone in their continued fight to protect some of the most vulnerable immigrants — many of whom have been targeted by President Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda. Today’s vote made it clear which political party is willing to stand and fight for our community, and for that, we extend our gratitude to House Democrats for working to set our country on the right path. From expanding access to quality and affordable health care to protecting DREAMers and TPS recipients, under Democratic leadership, we are finally tackling our nation’s most pressing issues.”
“Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for using this debate as an opportunity to dehumanize and attack our community rather than trying to fix this issue. Despite broad support across the country, we cannot count on Leader Mitch McConnell to bring this bill to a vote in the Senate. It is abundantly clear that if we want the Dream and Promise Act to be the law of the land, we must defeat Republicans in 2020 and elect candidates who reflect our values and will put people over politics.”
