WASHINGTON – In response to the indictment of Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Latino Victory Fund Executive Director, Sindy Benavides, released the following statement:
“This week, Senator Menendez was indicted on federal charges. I am extremely concerned about these serious allegations and expect accountability from our public servants and elected officials. We should allow the court system to follow its natural course of action, including the fundamental right for every citizen to have due process.
“Senator Menendez has a long track record of accomplishments and has been a strong and determined legislator and advocate for the Latino community. From passing bipartisan immigration reform to fighting for better educational opportunities for Hispanic serving institutions to enacting the Affordable Care Act, Senator Menendez has been an important voice for Latino families and immigrants alike. His lifetime of service to his community speaks for itself. Now, we must allow both the court and Sen. Menendez the time and space to determine the proper course of action in service of his constituents.”
