Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory Fund President & CEO Nathalie Rayes issued the following statement on today’s U.S. Supreme Court hearing on the Affordable Care Act:
“Today, the Supreme Court heard a case that could determine the fate of the Affordable Care Act and could be a devastating blow for the 21 million Americans who are facing the loss of health care coverage during the peak of a global pandemic. Trump and Republicans keep endangering the lives of millions of hard-working Americans, just as they did with their failed Covid-19 response. Striking down the ACA would mean that our country’s public and health care system would fall into a dangerous tailspin that could’ve been avoided. The consequences will be even more catastrophic for the Latino community—they’re facing the highest levels of uninsurance as they contend with higher rates of Covid-19 infections and deaths. We look forward to the next Congress and the Biden-Harris administration’s plans to expand and improve upon the ACA, including their plan to eradicate systemic racism and discriminatory policies that have deeply impacted the Latino community’s health care access.”
