Becerra would be the first Latino to serve as Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Washington, D.C. – President-elect Joe Biden is expected to nominate California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as Secretary of Health and Human Services. With this selection, President-elect Biden underscores his commitment to ensuring his Cabinet reflects our country’s diversity by nominating and appointing Latinos to key administration posts. Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory Fund president & CEO, issued the following statement:
“From fighting to defend the Affordable Care Act to protecting Dreamers, California Attorney General Xavier Beccera has been a lifelong public servant and a leading advocate for Latinos across the country. His public service track record is unparalleled, and his nomination comes at a time when communities of color, especially the Latino community, are disproportionately impacted by the largest public health crisis of our lifetime. We look forward to seeing an HHS secretary who will work from day one to put an end to systemic racism and discriminatory policies that have deeply impacted the Latino community’s access to health care.”
Latino Victory Fund was proud to stand with Attorney General Becerra during the nomination stage and will continue to do so in the Senate confirmation process. We will keep advocating to ensure that Latinos are represented at the highest government level, including the Executive Branch.
