Latino Victory Fund Supports Tom Perez for DNC Chair

Washington, D.C. – Today Tom Perez announced his bid for Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).

Please see below a statement from Cristóbal J. Alex, President of Latino Victory Fund:

“Tom Perez is the son of Dominican immigrants who came to this country in search for a better life, and he has devoted his career to fighting for what’s right, expanding opportunity for all Americans, and ensuring that all voices are heard within our democratic process.

“As a civil rights attorney, Tom understands that real change happens when we mobilize and empower our communities. He gets the importance of supporting the work on the ground, and as such his advocacy reflect their needs.

“Tom knows that fighting for equal representation and civil liberties for everyone requires mindful, consistent, and concerted efforts to bring in stakeholders to influence long-term policy. He built a career on listening to and building close relationships with grassroots organizers to champion their issues in the courtroom.

“During his time at the Department of Justice, Perez defended victims of hate crimes and led efforts to investigate systemic misconduct in police departments. Perez led the charge to hold big banks accountable, and he is a staunch advocate for voting rights, working families, and workplace protections.

“Tom Perez is a proven and qualified progressive leader who has fought for the rights of communities of color, immigrants, women, the LGBTQ community and young people throughout his entire career, and we know he is the right person to unify and lead the Democratic Party.

“Coming out of an election filled with hate, racism, sexism, and violence, it is more important than ever that the Democratic Party remain united and grounded in our values of inclusion and opportunities for all. Tom Perez is the right person for the job and we are proud to support him for DNC Chair.”
