Washington, D.C. — Latino Victory announced today that Nathalie Rayes, board member, and Mayra Macías, executive director, have been appointed to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Board of Directors. Rayes and Macías join Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda, who has served in the PPAF board of directors for the past four years and has been a dedicated champion for women’s rights throughout her career.
“I am proud to welcome Nathalie and Mayra to the Planned Parenthood Action Fund Board of Directors,” said Luz Towns-Miranda, PPAF board member. “Planned Parenthood health centers serve over 560,000 Latino patients a year. As that number continues to grow, the Board of Directors must reflect the diversity of Planned Parenthood and the many individuals served by the organization. I am ready to get to work with Nathalie and Mayra as part of this newly-expanded Latina representation on the board.”
“When women’s reproductive rights and access to health care are on the line, so is the well-being of millions of Latinas,” said Nathalie Rayes, Latino Victory board member. “I am honored to join the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s Board of Directors and look forward to continuing to strengthen Latinas’ voices in this critical moment for women’s rights and help expand PPAF’s diverse coalition.”
“Access to safe reproductive health care is on the ballot in November, and Latina voters are ready to defend this life-saving right,” said Mayra Macías, Latino Victory executive director. “Planned Parenthood is on the frontlines in the fight for reproductive rights, and I am thrilled to join this talented cadre of leaders.”
“We are thrilled to have Latino Victory’s Executive Director Mayra Macías join the Planned Parenthood Action Fund as our newest board member. We’re also grateful that we will continue to have Nathalie Rayes’s leadership as she moves to the Action Fund board from Planned Parenthood Federation of America board, joining Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda who has served on the board for four years. These women are lifelong champions for issues that matter to the Latinx community, and that includes reproductive rights. It’s never been more important to have Latinas fighting, and leading, in the reproductive health care space, and we’re excited to have their expertise helping guide our organization.” – Alexis McGill Johnson, Acting President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund
Rayes and Macías’ appointment reinforces Latino Victory’s commitment to ensuring Latinas have a voice in their reproductive health and advocating for women’s rights. Latino Victory endorses candidates who support women’s reproductive rights and since 2017 has focused on increasing the number of Latinas elected to office. Macías’ appointment marks the first since she was named Latino Victory’s executive director in August 2019. Rayes previously served in the Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s Board of Directors.
