Latino Victory Project Applauds Efforts to Reach Latino Voters

Washington, D.C. — Following a successful month-long voter registration campaign in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Latino Victory Project today announced that the initiative to mobilize Latinos will continue through Election Day. The #PowerOfOurVote campaign kicked off on September 15th and was led by Voto Latino and Mi Familia Vota in partnership with more than 85 organizations. Throughout the month, an estimated 74.3 million individuals were reached online, with 209 million in estimated social impressions.

“The success of the Hispanic Heritage Month of Action and the #PowerOfOurVote campaign shows how the Latino community can come together to affect change this election cycle. Building power begins with casting ballots, and I’m hopeful that more Latinos will vote on November 4 than ever before,” said Cristóbal Alex, President of the Latino Victory Project. “Our work is not done. Some states allow voters to register up until Election Day, and we will continue spread the message to eligible Latino voters that their voices must be heard. Along with the more than 85 partner groups, we will also continue to focus on growing our vote not only this year, but for many years to come.”

While the final number of voters registered during the #PowerofOurVote campaign is still being calculated, the campaign’s social media reach is unprecedented for a grassroots Latino voter registration movement.

According to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO), more than 7.8 million Latinos are expected to vote this November, up from 6.6 million Latinos who voted in the last midterm election in 2010.  The record Latino voter turnout in 2012 propelled immigration to the top of the policy agenda. Latino voters must be heard again to create the political climate to find solutions for immigration, the economy, and other issues important to the Latino community.
