Washington, D.C. – Following Pope Francis’ first two days in Washington, D.C., Latino Victory Project applauds his continued efforts to address the need for equal rights and opportunity for all those living in the United States.
Latino Victory Project President, Cristóbal Alex, issued the following statement:
“The Pope’s focus on issues such as immigration, economic inequality, and criminal justice reform resonate with the Latino community. Too often we forget those who are working hard to have equal footing in our society or to re-establish themselves in the community. Pope Francis has provided a refreshing reminder on the issues and values that are important to the Latino community and our national identity.”
“The Pope presents an enormous opportunity for our country to promote tolerance and acceptance, no matter your race, background or economic status. In a time where there is so much hatred and anger, we are reminded that there are so many opportunities to create positive change, even in a small way. While our nation has a long way to go in tackling these big issues, my hope is that the Pope’s speeches and visits throughout the week show that our nation can still transcend party politics, and that people on both sides of the aisle will take away the urgency needed to promote the “Golden Rule” on issues important to Latinos across the country.”
