Latino Victory Project Calls on Hispanics to Stand Up to Presidential Candidates

Ad Calls for Voter Registration to Make Latino Voices Heard and Kicks off Community Mobilization Efforts Across the Country

September 11, 2015

Washington, D.C. – Today, Latino Victory Project released an ad calling out presidential candidates who have continually launched hateful attacks on immigrant communities. The ad seeks to take the negative tenor of the campaigns and empower some of the fastest growing portions of the country’s population to stand up to these politicians by registering to vote.

The ad features minority actors and Latino immigrants who are reading actual quotes from Republican presidential candidates including calling immigrants “criminals,” “rapists” and “anchor babies.”

“Latinos are disgusted by the outrageous claims made by 2016 presidential hopefuls, who are trying to marginalize our community for their own gains,” said Cristóbal J. Alex, the President of the Latino Victory Project. “If this is what the candidates are saying, what policies will they put in place if elected? Our community has the power to decide the election, and we need to make sure that our voices are heard so that our leaders reflect our values.”

The ad will run both in English and in Spanish in Nevada and Colorado as well as in targeted online publications starting Monday, September 14. The ad is the first in a series that LVP will air throughout the election cycle. To view the full ad in English, click here. For the Spanish version of the ad, click here.

The ad is the first in a series of community mobilization efforts that will begin next week as the second Republican debate takes place and as the community celebrates the start of Hispanic Heritage Month. On September 16 in Washington, D.C., Latino Victory Project and partner organizations will come together to issue a grito, echoing the sentiments in the ad and showing the diverse coalition of support that is taking a stand against this harmful rhetoric. On Wednesday evening, Latino Victory Project and others will host debate watch parties across the country, letting politicians know that Latinos are listening and ready to take action.
