WASHINGTON – Today, for Latina Equal Pay Day, Latino Victory Project Executive Director, Sindy Benavides, released the following statement:
“Latina Equal Pay Day is a reminder of the work that is still left to ensure equitable economic conditions for our communities. Latina women across this country are making 52 cents to every dollar a white, non-Hispanic man makes. This drastic pay disparity creates barriers to building intergenerational wealth as well as access to adequate health care, education, and homeownership. All while 30% of Latina led households live under the poverty line.
“Latinas deserve courageous leadership throughout all levels of government who can enact a future where our pay is fair and equal. At Latino Victory, we are committed to making this future a reality by building Latina political power, both at the ballot box and in the rooms of influence at the local, state and federal level. At times, all it takes is for one person to spark a change, that is why we invest in first time Latina candidates, and why Latino Victory is powered by an all Latina team. We must fight for equitable economic prosperity for every hard working American, but we must do so together.”
