WASHINGTON – Today, the Supreme Court issued its ruling in Moore v. Harper. In response, Latino Victory Project Executive Director, Sindy Benavides, issued the following statement:
“The Supreme Court’s decision to protect the power of state courts to safeguard voting rights and fair Congressional maps is a win for democracy.
“Last year, Latino voters were the fastest-growing racial and ethnic group in the electorate. Today’s ruling rejected a deliberate attempt to divide and dilute the impact of our votes. Latinos have been driving population growth over the last decade and Latino representation at the ballot box and on the ballot should reflect that.
“The SCOTUS rulings in both Moore v. Harper and Allen v. Milligan earlier this month mark a victory for voting rights and a defeat of partisan power grabs that silence our political voice. As Latino voters continue to be a deciding factor in elections up and down the ticket, and throughout the country, we will continue fighting to ensure that political boundaries are drawn with Latino influence.”
