Latino Victory Project on SCOTUS Ruling on Student Loan Debt

WASHINGTON – Today, the Supreme Court issued its ruling on Biden v. Nebraska. Latino Victory Project Executive Director, Sindy Benavides, issued the following statement:

“The Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan comes at a great cost to the hundreds of thousands of students who seek to accomplish their educational and career goals. Seven in 10 Latinos across the country cite financial hardships as obstacles to attaining bachelor’s degrees. This harsh reality coincides with twice as many Hispanics enrolling in U.S. universities and colleges

“Latinos, like all Americans, deserve to reach their dreams without having to put their futures on pause. Education is an important tool in teaching the next generation of doctors, engineers, and elected officials our nation depends on. However, the Supreme Court’s decision has rendered education a luxury. This ruling puts American families at risk of financial hardship. It is a harrowing decision, one that does not come lightly, with the understanding that Latinos, and people of color, will bear the brunt of this ruling.”
