Latino Victory Project On the Eleventh Anniversary of DACA

WASHINGTON – On the eleventh anniversary of DACA, Latino Victory Project Executive Director, Sindy Benavides, released the following statement:

“Eleven years ago, President Obama enacted the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). Since then, DACA has transformed how undocumented people realize their career and educational goals. Across this nation, DACA has protected lawyers, doctors, service workers, public servants, neighbors, parents, and friends from the threat of deportation.

“The 800,000 DACA recipients in the United States deserve to live in dignity. Like all Americans, their stories weave together our nation’s diverse cultural fabric. A permanent protection for DACA recipients is long overdue. As the courts hear arguments pertaining to the future of DACA, Latino Victory stands in solidarity with the hundreds of thousands of community members who live in limbo.

“The American public agrees – 74% favor a law that grants permanent protections to DACA recipients. It is a testament to the advocates, organizers, and lawmakers who continue to fight for DREAMERS. Home is here for the 800,000 DACA recipients who pay taxes and contribute to their communities. We will bring forth a future where we can all thrive together, free of fear and with a permanent solution, once and for all.”
